Readers may have thought Doc Ock's tenure as Spider-Man was completely over in the last pages of Superior Spider-Man. But Marvel Comics still have one last untold tale starring Doc Ock in Dan Slott, Christos Gage, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Adam Kubert's Superior Spider-Man #32.
In the Marvel Universe, the super villain Doc Ock took over the reins of Spider-Man after invading Peter Parker's mind. With his mass intellect and knowledge of Spider-Man's long list of enemies, Ock thought he was the 'Superior' hero, making adjustments to the costume and starting his own company. It took the return of a vicious foe to shake up everything Superior Spider-Man built.
In Superior Spider-Man #31, Ock ultimately realized the error of his ways, when confronting the Green Goblin, the Goblin King. In order to save New York from destruction, Parker had to be brought back and become Spider-Man again. Now readers will be getting an untold adventure of the superior wall-crawler from the year 2099.
In Superior Spider-Man #19, something mysterious happens to the web-spinner that caused him to be missing for nine hours. In the two-part story arc that takes place in issue #32, Doc Ock finds himself plucked from the present and crash-lands into the future. In 2099, a team of scientists are in need of Superior Spider-Man for an important mission. Because he doesn't remember what happened before his quantum leap, Ock will start an unexpected chain reaction of events, leading off to the upcoming Spider-Verse crossover.
Editor Nick Lowe explains the time-warp premise. "Superior Spider-Man finds himself in 2099, finally a time where science and intellectual advancement is at least closer to his genius," Lowe said. "He needs to find his way home, but things get a little more complicated than that."
The Spider-Verse crossover is caused by a rift in time and space, where every incarnation of Spider-Man, from Spider-Man 2099 to Miles Morales, come together for the first time. Writer Christos Gage teases, "Superior Spider-Man comes face to face with a Peter Parker Spider-Man. A very different one from the one we know."
Doc Ock's missing adventure takes place in Superior Spider-Man #32 and #33, starting sometime in August.
