Attending a soccer much is seen as a nice way to unwind, but scarily, over the years there have been tragic moments for all involved, including many crowd incidents. Many feared the worst as part of a stand (holding fans) collapsed during a La Liga clash between Osasuna and Real Betis took place.
Around 30 minutes in a crowd barrier tumbled to the ground after Osasuna opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Roughly 60 fans were treated with minor injuries, with 10 fans taken to hospital. None suffered serious injury, much to the relief of everyone involved and to those witnessing the horrific events.
The game continued and Osasuna won 2-1, yet they were still relegated due to other results. Their coach, Javi Gracia said "Despite the victory the results just didn't go our way," Osasuna coach Javi Gracia told a news conference. Any analysis of the match and the situation is pointless given the state of the team, the club and everyone else. It's a very sad day for me personally and professionally." Can Gracia and his Osasuna team bounce back at the first time of asking?
In a sport the world loves and adores, this was another reminder of the importance of safety first, and there's no doubt it will cause extra ground checks this summer. Is there a way that fans can equally enjoy the games, but remain safer than they currently are? This event could've been tragic, but luckily everything was handled exceptionally well to ensure nobody was hurt.
