Woody Allen's last leading lady (Cate Blanchett) won an Oscar for her performance, so perhaps we should expect the same success for his new muse, Emma Stone. In his 2014 summer film Magic in the Moonlight, Allen teams Stone with Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, and Jackie Weaver for another great comedy with a some surprises we might not expect.
This week we were treated to the first trailer for Magic in the Moonlight, and it is definitely a great example of Allen's filmmaking talents. With Stone, we see a leading lady emerge from a young starlet.
2014 could be Stone's biggest year considering her recent release, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But this time around, she's the one with powers - well, alleged powers. That's what Colin Firth's character is trying to disprove at least.
"I had it on a piece of notepaper in my drawer for ages," Allen said to Entertainment Weekly last month. "I knew it was a good plot, but I kept seeing it as a contemporary thing and something about that just didn't smell right to me. Then when it occurred to me it could be set in the south of France in the 1920s, all of a sudden it just felt good."
