Dynamite Entertainment takes a unique twist on the war between humans and Cylons. Writer Tony Lee and artist Aneke combine Industrial Age technology with a flair of Victorian lifestyle in Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880.

In 1978, creator Glen A. Larson imagined a future where the Twelve Colonies have been at war with the cybernetic race, the Cylons. To prevent extermination of the human race, Commander Adama and his crew of the Galatica spaceship are on a course for the thirteenth colony known as Earth. In the 2004 remake by Ronald D. Moore, the sci-fi series was much darker in tone and male protagonists were changed to female characters. The war between the Colonies and Cylons took heavy causalities from both sides. An uneasy alliance was formed in their search for Earth, which may or may not actually exist.

In steampunk, the hybrid genre combines sci-fi with British Victorian wardrobe. The apocalyptic future is run mostly by steam power. Audiences got a taste of this when Doc Brown turned the steam-powered railroad train into a time-machine in Back to the Future Part III.

Tony Lee discusses this latest reboot, "I've been a fan of steampunk ever since I played Space: 1889 as a teenager, or read the works of H.G Wells and Jules Verne as a small child. I think in a way it's one of the reasons why I became a writer; to dream of flying through the aluminiferous Aether in my Cavorite-powered Space probe."

 Plot Synopsis:

In this steampunk re-imagination, Professor Baltar's clockwork Cylonics have destroyed the Colonial Empire. Arch Duke Adama discovers his son Apollo has gone missing. Lady Athena has to travel to the Sky Pirate world of the Rising Star. She has to ask help from her only hope - the disgraced Captain Starbuck and his humanoid/Daggit copilot Muffit.

Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880 #1 is slated for release in August. The '70s sci-fi TV series gets a whole new makeover that fans have never seen before.
