As MStars reported over the weekend, director Edgar Wright was all set to direct Ant-Man for Marvel Studios until differences in the two sides' visions for the film caused Wright to walk away. But a new report indicates what the director's next project could be.
Deadline reports Wright could move right into the director's chair for Disney's remake of Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Here's how the site describes the project:
"Wright has been developing this for Johnny Depp to play the tabloid news reporter, played by Darren McGavin in the original '70s movie and series. If you don't recall it, Kolchak covered crime for a tabloid and his cases always led to supernatural perpetrators that included zombies, vampires, werewolves and aliens. Of course, neither his editor nor anyone else would believe him or allow him to run what seemed like outrageous stories, but he always got close enough to the truth that he was stalked by these great villains and found a way to dispatch them. It was playful in tone but often scary as hell at the same time."
The site also reports D.V. DeVincentis is writing the script. This whole thing hinges, though, on Depp's availability, as he is playing Whitey Bulger in Black Mass at the moment and is supposed to star in another Pirates of the Caribbean movie either later this year or early next year.
What do you think? Is this Wright's next project? Will Depp be available? Who will/should replace Wright as director of Ant-Man? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
