If you can't stand the heat, girl you better get out of the kitchen.
Rupaul has been catching some heat recently for his use of the word "tranny" and "she-male," during the past season of Rupaul's Drag Race. The host of the show came under fire for using the words, which promoted the network to get rid of his "she-mail" segment that was featured during each episode.
In an interview with Marc Marron of WTF, the reality show host talks about the recent controversy.
"Does the word 'tranny' bother me? No. I love the word 'tranny'... It's not the transsexual community who's saying that. These are fringe people who are looking for storylines to strengthen their identities as victims. That is what we are dealing with. It's not the trans community."
"I dance to the beat of a different drummer. I believe everybody- you can be whatever the hell you wanna be, I aint stopping you. But don't you dare tell me what I can do or what I can't- say or can't do."
The drag queen continues by saying, "It's just words, like 'Yeah, you hurt me!' Bitch, you need to get stronger. If you're upset by something I said you have bigger problems than you think."
His drag race alums are very divided over the topic. Current reigning Queen Bianca Del Rio has come to the defense of her drag mother often making statuses back up Ru on her Facebook page.
Carmen Carrera, a trans contestant from season three of the show, however is very hurt by comments Rupaul has been making. She tweeted a picture on Monday of Rupaul jumping off a cliff with a bunch of dogs jumping off behind him, with the caption "follow the leader."
The dogs are saying things while they jump off the cliff including "I'm with Ru!," "Toughen up!," "It doesn't offend me and I don't care!," and "words don't matter!!"
Carmen has also been pretty adamant about her disapproval of Ru's choice of words and has taken to Facebook to voice her opinion in the past.
Carrera opened up on the social media site earlier this month, saying the show should be a platform for education instead of negativity.
"Although I am certain Rupaul's Drag Race didn't mean to be offensive, let this be a learning experience. I think the show has opened up and educated the minds of many people who were ignorant to the world of drag and has made equality and respect a possibility for those involved."
The trans model continues by saying, "'Shemale' is an incredibly offensive term, and this whole business about if you can tell whether a woman is biological or not is getting kind of old. We live in a new world where understanding and acceptance are on the rise. Drag Race should be a little smarter about the terms they use and comprehend the fight for respect trans people are facing ever minute of today."
It doesn't seem like either of these Queens will be changing their minds anytime soon.
