The ruler of Atlantis feels his kingdom threatened by a powerful pant creature. Writer Charles Soule teases readers what they should expect In DC Comics' two-part crossover event, Aquaman #31 and Swamp Thing #32.

In the DC Universe, Aquaman serves as the king of the subaquatic city known as Atlantis. The marine life needs to be protected from the dangers of humanity. Because he is half-human, Aquaman is at odds with following the Justice League's orders and protecting the sea creature. Plus if you have seen the Robot Chicken spoofs, it's pretty funny that this superhero's biggest power is that he can talk to the fishes.

Brought back from the dead, scientist Alec Holland became the hideous swamp creature when his lab was sabotaged in an explosion. Though he looks the part of the monster, Swamp Thing's true destiny is to protect the Green of the world. The elemental creature will move beyond his natural habitat in the upcoming storyline.

The confrontation begins when Swamp Thing uses his powers on the waters and fish life. When his kingdom feels threatened by the humanoid plant creature, Aquaman has to investigate the cause of this intrusion. The two superheroes won't be happy when they meet each other.

Soule explains the inspiration behind the team-up, "When I first started writing Swamp Thing, one of the things that's really fun about the title was putting that character in different spots of the world. His foliage changes no matter where he is."

Though these two superheroes know of each other but have never met, Soule discusses why he was eager to pit them against each other, "One of the big things on my to-do list from the beginning was to put [Swamp Thing] under the ocean, to see what he looks like; the kelp thing/seaweed man. I was thinking, 'I need someone for him to bounce around with.' And well there's Aquaman. He's right there!"
