Usually when a tournament as big as the 2014 World Cup arrives, the teams, their rivals and most fans now all they need to know about the favourites and their strengths and weaknesses, but contenders Germany may of just added cause for concern for both themselves and their opponents. Their 2-2 draw with Cameroon has revealed a ton to their future World Cup opponents.
Germany have a young, fast and dominating team and many cannot see past them winning the tournament, or at least making the semi-final stage. The Germans prepared with a friendly against Cameroon, and many of their rivals can learn a lot from their play in that friendly, both of the good and bad variety.
Germany displayed some brilliant attacking moves, ones that would strike fear in to the toughest of defenses. Germany could of been 4 or 5 goals ahead before the half-time break. However, three things became quickly apparent. 1: they can attack and score against anybody at their fluent best. 2: They can be very wasteful in front of goal. 3: They are weak defensively.
The first two points are ones that go together and teams will be aware of them, knowing the slightest tweaks could make all the difference. The third point, however, was an interesting one. They seemed frightened of the Cameroon attack, and they will face far, far better.
Although it's early and they're only in the stage of preparation, this friendly will definitely show the better teams exactly how they can stop Germany if they're at their worst, and how they can aim to outscore the Germans when they are at their attacking best.
