Emilia Clarke, Pedro Pascal Talk Game of Thrones Episode 'The Mountain and The Viper'

[WARNING: SPOILERS FOR LATEST GAME OF THRONES EPISODE BELOW]

The latest episode of Game of Thrones, entitled "The Mountain and The Viper" featured two fairly significant developments. Firstly, The Mountain treated Oberyn's head like water balloon and popped it open with his bare hands. Dany also cut ties with Ser Jorah after she learned he had been spying on her.

Pedro Pascal, who played Oberyn, spoke to EW.com about his character's demise. The Red Viper had the Mountain beat, but he tried to get a public confession out of his sister's killer and waited too long to deliver the killing blow, which allowed the hulking warrior to split his face open like a cantaloupe. So what did Oberyn do wrong?

"Getting too close and being too far delivered by his own passions. Because ultimately, it is about defeating this man who raped and killed his sister, but before he can do that, before he can end this man's life, he needs a confession. He needs to hear it. And interestingly I had this great conversation with [Thrones co-star] Lena Headey about Oberyn's journey, and how even though it ends badly, he still hears the confession, you know? I don't even need to go on after that once it's been said out loud. And the ecstasy of achieving that, even though it's being achieved in the instance of my demise."

Emilia Clarke, who brings Dany to life on screen, also talked about her character's decision in the episode.

"Emotionally for me it was so intricate," Clarke said. "Jorah's been with me since day one, season one. The scene itself is unpleasant because I - Emilia - know that what Dany is doing is wrong, And it was the first time I've ever felt that."

Dany has been rising to the top since the start of the show, but this move seemed like she fell right into Tywin Lannister's trap.

"I'm looking at Iain Glen thinking: 'Don't leave!'" she continued. "I'm banishing him and all I want to do is cling to his ankles. It was really hard it marked one of the biggest decisions of this character to date."
