Curtis Woodhouse gave up his footballing career to pursue one in boxing, and early this year every early morning, and every bit of blood, sweat and tears he poured in to his boxing, was all worth it, as he was crowned the champion of Britain. The light-welterweight boxer had planned to retire, but decided he had to see how far he could go, and therefore made a fight with Willie Limond, the Commonwealth title holder, in Glasgow on Friday, June 27. Can Woodhouse become a double champion?
Now that he's achieved his long-time goal, it could be nothing but relaxation and taking it easy, right? Not a chance. The superstar boxer has barely had a moment to himself, training day in and day out, leaving only the occasional spare seconds to tweet about his progress or to spend time with his family. Limond knows he's in for a tough night, as he explained recently, saying "I like the way he goes about his business. He's completely dedicated and he comes to fight, and that means this is going to be a great night for the fans."
Woodhouse's promoter/trainer, Dave Coldwell, has seen it all, and appears in a very confident mood about this upcoming bout. He tweeted "3wks out from @woodhousecurtis big showdown with Limond & have to say I'm very confident that we're coming home wit a double champ! #boxing" Has it been easy for the British champion? Apparently not, as he tweeted recently saying "Run done in the rain, just a steady 30 minutes this morning, got a tough spar tonight, 10 rounds to 2 good operators #Boxing"
It seems his champion work ethic is well and truly in place, and many people have bet against Curtis during his career, so would somebody be foolish enough to bet against him one more time? By the end of June, we could well be looking at an ex-footballer, the British champion and the Commonweatlh champion. Not bad for a man that many failed to believe in.
