RoboCop continues to fight crime in the crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit in a new ongoing series from BOOM! Studios. Writer Joshua Williamson and artist Carlos Magno are taking the classic 1987 action/sci-fi flick to new heights. Check out the main cover by Goni Montes and variants by Magno and Alexis Zerrit.
In the near-future, Old Detorit has become a bonfire of crime and depravity. After being murdered in the line of duty, Alex Murphy is brought back to life by the scientists of the OCP mega-corporation. Part man and half machine, Murphy has become an indestructible cybernetic law enforcer.
BOOM! Studios Editor-In-Chief Matt Gagnon discusses bringing the cyborg police officer onto the comic book page, "Joshua and Carlos are joining forces to bring us the RoboCop we love. These guys are both such wonderful creators and I can tell you the first issue of this series had our bullpen doing backflips in excitement." Gagnon continues, "We pick up right where the first movie leaves off, set in the dark, corrupt, complex world of RoboCop-a world that's rife with so many storytelling possibilities. Fans of the original film should consider picking this up a Prime Directive."
Plot Synopsis:
Dive into the harsh world of Old Detroit with RoboCop and his partner, Anne Lewis, following the events of the original film. A deadly and charismatic criminal, Killian, is released from jail. He went into the slammer before RoboCop hit the streets, and now he wants to take out the biggest cop in the city. When OCP wants to take guns off the street, Killian sees it as his opportunity to take on the former Alex Murphy!
As reported here, BOOM! is also offering a free downloadable copy of Robocop: The Gauntlet when you buy the 2014 RoboCop DVD/Blu-Ray from Target.
Robocop #1 is expected to hit stores on July 2. I cannot wait to read, "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" on the comic book page.
