Known for making some of the coolest movie-related posters around, Mondo has given its own spin on The Strain. Based on the vampire trilogy of novels by director Guillermo Del Toro and author Chuck Hogan, find out what the Mondo poster reveals about the upcoming TV series on FX.
Comic Book Resources reports that Mondo made the posters to coincide with pilot episode's premiere at the ATX Television Festival. The Texas-based art boutique company creates limited edition original posters of pop culture's mainstream films and popular movie soundtracks.
Check out Mondo's poster for The Strain:
Notice how the vampire's bald face is shaped to look like the moon's surface. When the vamp opens his mouth and flashes his fangs, check out how the slithery tongue is shaped like the letter S. The creature effects reminds me a lot of the Reapers in Del Toro's Blade 2.
Remember in the Blade sequel, when Nomak is about to bite the vampire hunter, the mouth splits open and out comes a long stinger. Artist Mike Huddleston recreates that imagery in The Strain comic book series and twists it around.
As reported here, the vampire trilogy has been adapted by Dark Horse Comics. In the first volume of the comic book series, the story is centered on a countdown to an upcoming solar eclipse. The moon blocks the sun for a specific amount of time. Without spoiling too much, I just want to add, we all know bloodsuckers can't stand the sunlight.
Mondo will release its own The Strain poster to the public on July 11, just before the FX premiere on July 13. Readers can also get a copy of Dark Horse Comics' adaptation here.
