Dark Horse Comics announces the latest chapter in their best-selling horror series. 30 Days of Night writer Steve Niles returns to his old haunting ground, along with artist Christopher Mitten (Umbral), for a band new four-part miniseries, Criminal Macabre: The Third Child.

A mix of horror and noir, the Criminal Macabre series follows Cal MacDonald, a paranormal private detective. His addiction to alcohol, sex, and drugs even frightens the vampires and demons. Not only does the pill-popping gumshoe see monsters everywhere, his best friend is an undead ghoul. The boozehound and his partner, Mo'Lock, solve supernatural cases that take them to the darkest corners of Los Angeles. Actor Thomas Jane (The Mist) portrayed the beaten and bruised Cal in a series of covers, including Two Red Eyes and My Demon Baby.

[Spoilers] In Criminal Macabre: Final Night, Mo'Lock kept his only human companion alive by turning him into a ghoul. Cal is destined to take part in the ultimate war between humans and monsters.  Though he is important in the upcoming battles, Cal cannot keep anything inside his stomach as he drowns himself in liquor. It turns out ghouls don't really need to eat or drink anything. [End Spoilers]

Criminal Macabre: The Third Child takes place after The Eyes of Frankenstein. In the previous chapter, Cal, Mo'Lock, and Frankenstein's Monster teamed-up take on the self-proclaimed supernatural expert, Jason Hemlock.

Plot Synopsis:

Cal's changed...and maybe not for the better. Locked away and drowning himself with booze and aspirin, Cal feels the evil consuming him. Will he be able to withstand its pull? Or will he become the monster war's greatest weapon of destruction?

Criminal Macabre: The Third Child #1 will be available in stores on September 17. The trade paperback of Criminal Macabre: The Eyes of Frankenstein will also hit stores on June 18.
