Marvel Comics presents a new amazing superhero in the prelude event, Edge of Spider-Verse #2. Writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez take fan-favorite Gwen Stacy on an exciting roller-coaster ride as Spider-Woman.

As mentioned here, Latour and Rodriguez revealed the new redesign of Spider-Woman. Just like Spider-Man Noir, the female heroine will be getting her own spotlight issue in the Edge of Spider-Verse miniseries. This time around, it's not Peter Parker who gets bitten by the radioactive spider. In an interview with Marvel, the creative team explores what happens when Gwen Stacey, the love of Peter's life, dons the Spidey costume and fights crime.

In the second issue of Edge of Spider-Verse, Gwen is seen rehearsing with her own punk band, The Mary Janes. While the blonde teenager is practicing her musical instrument, a manhunt led by Captain George Stacy is on for the masked vigilante, Spider-Woman. Wanted for a crime she didn't commit, Gwen has to pretend to be a normal everyday girl in front of father, while living the nightlife as a superhero.

Rodriguez discusses interpreting Gwen in a brand new light, "We get to punk her out a bit, and make her a kind of heroine that even more female readers can relate with. Not just a female version of Spider-Man in a different costume, but a stronger character in her own right. A real individual who could, if the opportunity ever arose, take up Spider-Man's role someday."

Latour explains how Captain Stacy is different than Uncle Ben, "[Stacey]'s a man who maybe shares some of the same qualities as the Parkers but at the end of the day he's different; in that he straps on a gun and a badge and takes it upon himself to police the community. To me, that wrinkle adds an interesting nuance to the lessons she's learning and the challenges she will face."

Both issues of Edge of Spider-Verse, starring Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Woman, will be released in September. Will Captain Stacey discover who the female superheroine really is and stop her vigilante spree?
