HBO's Game of Thrones is one of the most watched and acclaimed shows on television, but Emmys have eluded the program for years. But the show continues to earn consideration, and it has submitted some of its heavy hitters for nominations this year.
According to EW.com, Game of Thrones has submitted the following names for best supporting actor and actress:
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister), Natalie Dormer (Margery Tyrell), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow).
The show also submitted Pedro Pascal (Prince Oberyn Martell) and Diana Rigg (Lady Olenna) for guest actor nominations. To see the writer and director nominations, click here.
EW.com asked HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo in May about the lack of Emmy wins, and he said the show's fantasy setting and high production values might actually hurt it at the Emmys.
"What frustrates me about the show is people really love and connect with the characters - but somehow, [the voters] don't put two and two together that there are great actors embodying those roles," Lombardo said. "There seems to be a disconnect. This would not work without compelling writing and unbelievable acting and suburb direction. And I think that's part of the challenge of a show that's a genre show. I think people think the show is carried along on its production values."
