Just in time for Halloween, Archie Comics will be launching their sister series to Afterlife with Archie. At the Special Edition: NYC convention, SVP of Publicity & Marketing Alex Segura, Co-CEO Jon Goldwater, President Mike Perlito, and Afterlife With Archie artist Francesco Francavilla revealed the dark side of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch and teased about her long-awaited live-action movie.
If you remember the Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV series starring Melissa Joan Hart, her horror series won't be anything like that. Now she will do more than cast spells in her latest chilling adventures.
Francavilla is excited after seeing Robert Hack's artwork firsthand, "I got a sneak peek at the pages. And yes, it will be pretty dark and Gothic. And it will be set in the '60s. It's not at the same time as Afterlife. It's not part of the same universe but it will as much scary and spooky, because Roberto {Aguire-Sacasa] is writing it."
For the original Sabrina fans, Archie Comics is making the Teenage Witch movie with Sony Pictures. The aim is to make the flick feel more like Harry Potter, with a lot of magical elements. Sabrina's long journey to the big screen took its time because the screenwriters have been working on the perfect script.
Godlwater teases what's up ahead after the screenplay is finished, "As soon as we finish that up, and we'll be finished with that in a few weeks, the next step is to put a director in place. That should be done by the end of the summer." The Co-CEO continues, "And then in the fall, we'll be casting for Sabrina. So once we get our Sabrina, then we need to get Hilda, Salem, and all the characters. It's going to be a lot of fun. Hopefully we'll start filming by the end of the year.
The Sabrina horror series will be released in October. Readers, who would you like to see play Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the movie?
