Sam Merlotte became the Mayor of Bon Temps when the Hepatitis V strain spread into the Tru Blood drink. On the final season of HBO's True Blood, actor Sam Trammell reveals what's up ahead in this last storyline.
Towards the end of Season 6, Mayor Sam Merlotte starts a blood program between humans and bloodsuckers. The two races need to help each other out now that Hepatitis V has spread over the country. Uninfected vampires will drink and protect their donors from the deadly strain.
In an interview with Zap2it, Trammell talks about how the former bar & grill owner makes the transition to political figurehead. Will the newbie mayor be able to save Bon Temps from itself? Or will the place he calls home fall apart?
Trammell discusses how Merlotte will have trouble fitting into politics, "[Merlotte]'s a very private person, and I think he's a little suspicious of people to a certain extent, especially given that his parents took on him. I think he has a hard time trusting people." The shape shifter on the show continues, "I think there's an innate unconscious sense that people might take advantage of him if they found out about his powers, or they might sort of target him. I think he likes to keep his cards close to his chest just to feel safe."
Sookie's former love interest explains what he will not miss about the show, "I will not miss the cold, long nights, I'll tell you that -- and being naked or short sleeved in the canyons of Malibu. I have put in a lot of outdoor naked time."
