Controversey surrounding Paula Deen's"racist" leanings has finally simmered-down - so why would her son Jamie have the nerve to post this rather eyebrow-raising snapshot on Twitter?
@jamie_deen: "Don't tell Brooke. #jellyroll #sugar" (June 15).
Ineata Jones (aka, "Jellyroll") works for the Deen family as a restaurant "entertainer." But some people don't approve of her rather controversial duties.
Back in 2013, Jellyroll allegedly amused diners at the Deens' Lady & Sons eatery - "... she stood in front and rang an iron dinner bell" (via The Columbus Dispatch). She was instructed to make hoecakes in front of the customers, and Deen even "wanted Jones to dress in an old-style Aunt Jemima outfit." Of course the family denied such accusations, but fellow employee Dora Charles insists, "Jellyroll didn't want to hear that. She didn't want to do that."
Apparently, Jones enjoys working for the Deen clan. But are they treating her with disrespect?
Especially with that nickname - according to RadarOnline:
With ties to black jazz artist "Jelly Roll" Morton and African America slang for female genitalia, "Jelly Roll" has come under fire from Deen critics for its racist connotations.
And several Twitter fans are also not amused with Deen's recent TwitPic. One tweeter even responded:
@shaigirl11: "Wow, did Paula Deen really call one of her workers JellyRoll? I find that more offensive than the N-word."
Do Mstars readers agree - is Deen's post and word use utterly offensive?
Meanwhile, rumors suggest Jamie's Food Network show Home For Dinner With Jamie Deen was recently renewed for a third season.
