For the first time, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the pay-per-view of the same name will be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, rather than a briefcase to challenge for the title at any time of the holder's choosing. All seven participants in the title match are finally set, but who is the favorite to win based on backstage planning?
The seven combatants in the match are:
- John Cena (qualified by beating Kane on Monday Night Raw in a Stretcher Match)
- Roman Reigns (qualified by winning a Battle Royal on Monday Night Raw)
- Bray Wyatt (qualified by beating Dean Ambrose on Friday Night Smackdown)
- Cesaro (qualified by beating Rob Van Dam on Monday Night Raw)
- Randy Orton (automatically qualified thanks to The Authority)
- Sheamus (qualified by beating Bad News Barrett on Monday Night Raw)
- Alberto Del Rio (qualified by beating Dolph Ziggler on Monday Night Raw prior to announcement that the MITB match would be for the title)
According to the latest rumors, WWE's plan is for a heel to win the title in this match. If this proves to be true, then that means Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, Orton and Del Rio are the only candidates.
Just for fun, let's play the elimination game. Del Rio has been mostly irrelevant for most of this year, so he's not likely to win. Orton just came off a length reign as champion, so it would be odd for WWE to put the belt back on him right away (but you never know). Bray Wyatt and Cesaro are both extremely popular, but Wyatt has a little more steam at the moment.
It's also possible any of these men could just be a transitional champion, if WWE plans to go through with Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
