With Scott Derrickson in the director's chair, Marvel Studios is now setting their sights on a screenwriter for their upcoming superhero movie. Jon Spaights is already in negations to write the script for Doctor Strange.
According to Deadline, Marvel has tapped The Mummy reboot writer to help launch their new sci-fi/supernatural flick. In the 1960s, writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko came up with a sorcerer who uses enchanted spells and martial arts to protect the Earth from dark magic. In the midst of preproduction, we'll have to wait and see if Strange will launch a franchise like Captain America or Avengers.
In the sci-fi world, Spaights is known as the scribe to pen the first draft of Prometheus. Before Damon Lindelof (Lost) got his hands on it, the original screenplay was supposed to be an Alien prequel, focusing on the mystery behind the Space Jockey. Whether or not you completely understood what was going on, the Ridley Scott film actually rebooted the once thought dead Alien franchise.
From his official Twitter, Spaihts made the announcement to his followers. The Prometheus writer states, "Doctor Strange has always been my hero. It's a good day."

As reported here, Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) are in the running to play the sorcerer supreme. With a screenwriter and a director on board, we might possibly hear about a casting announcement next.
No word yet on when the Doctor Strange feature film will be released. Readers, what do you think of the Prometheus writer penning the Marvel superhero?
