Judd Apatow is writing a book of interviews with famous comedians, consisting largely of interviews he himself has conducted over the past three decades, as the NY Times reports.
The book, Sick in the Head, named after a failed FOX pilot the writer / director made back in 1999, features a compilation of conversations between him and the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Mel Brooks, Louis C.K., Amy Schumer, Steve Allen, Jay Leno, Roseanne Bar and Lena Dunham –– with whom he co-executive produces HBO's Girls with.
In total, the 2015 book will feature about 25 interviews.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up writer / director has had an important hand in the comedy world for many years, having been known heavily for discovering names such as Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and even James Franco.
Apatow has been speaking with comedians for quite some time, delving into their minds to discover what makes them do what they do. It's a practice he's done even before he was a comedian himself. One such interview with Jerry Seinfeld was done when Apatow was a 16-years-old high school student, and well before Seinfeld was put on NBC. Part of it can be heard on his 2-part episode of WTF with Marc Maron.
Other interviews conducted around then, which will hopefully make the book, are with the legendary Harold Ramis and John Candy, which were done when he was in college.
Sick in the Head will sit as Apatow's second book, following his 2011 release of I Found This Funny.
Proceeds from Sick in the Head will go to benefit 826LA, a nonprofit organization that educates students between the ages of 6 and 18 in creative writing.
