Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer said last week that WWE planned to put the WWE World Heavyweight Championship back on Daniel Bryan prior to SummerSlam for a match with Brock Lesnar. Unfortunately, those plans now seem to be in serious jeopardy.
The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter states WWE officials do not expect Bryan back until SummerSlam on Aug. 17 at the earliest and possibly not until Night of Champions in September. This has thrown WWE's plans through the fall into some chaos, as this could have a ripple effect. Cesaro might not have his rumored face turn to fight Lesnar just yet, and John Cena might now win the title at Money in the Bank.
The plan for Lesnar was to have him return and challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in order to take the next logical step after conquering the Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30, as well as to increase the importance of the titles, according to the Observer. That remains the plan, but Bryan is out of the picture:
"Whoever is the champion going into SummerSlam, that's the Lesnar direction. Unless Bryan can return for Battleground and win the title from whoever wins it at Money in the Bank, it would be someone else. They are going with the idea that isn't happening and that Bryan won't even be on Battleground, so the most likely scenario is Sunday's ladder title match winner vs. Lesnar for the title."
