Rupert Giles was one of the fans' favorite characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer because of his paternal relationship with the main character and his fatherly affection for the entire group. Anthony Stewart Head, who played Giles on the show for the better part of seven seasons, wants to revisit the character.
The idea of a spinoff is not new, as a spinoff called Ripper was set to premiere on BBC in 2008 but never came to life. Ripper was Giles' identity as a young man. But Head spoke to Vulture recently and said he would jump at the chance to work with Joss Whedon again.
"You know what? I would do it. I would do anything to work with Joss again. He's a wonderful storyteller, a great director, and a lovely man," he said. "I would love to, you know? Whether it's Ripper or something else..."
Head currently stars on SyFy's Dominion, and Whedon is working on a little movie called The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The show would follow Giles after "he's cut adrift from Buffy and the rest of them," Head told Vulture. ""What he becomes. It's a beautiful, beautiful ghost story, and it's extremely haunting, as you would expect of Joss. It's unlike anything that I've ever read before. And if Joss is still game, then I am!"
Buffy did continue as a comic book, and Giles was killed during that series' run; however, Angel and Faith helped bring him back to life with his mind in one piece but in the body of a preteen.
