Though genre shows get no loving from the Emmys, there is another awards ceremony that paid particular attention to the hit AMC zombie series. The Walking Dead's very own Melissa McBride and Chandler Riggs took home trophies at the 2014 Saturn Awards.
As fans, we know that the horror TV show has had a difficult time getting noticed by Emmy voters. Sure the makeup department by Greg Nicotero gets their acclaim, but none of the actors get their praise. During the past four seasons, the writing gets stronger and ensemble cast delivers such strong performances.
Thank goodness there is the Saturn Awards. For the past three decades, this awards ceremony honors those in science fiction, fantasy, and horror. The nonprofit organization recognized the achievements that the Walking Dead cast delivered this fourth season.
As reported here, the McEmmy fan campaign highlighted McBride's powerful performance in The Grove. In the episode, McBride struggles to teach two lost little girls on how to survive the zombie apocalypse. Towards the end, McBride breaks down in tears after having to shoot one of them in the back of the head.
McEmmy fans should be happy to know Carol Peletier won for Best Supporting Actress In A Television Series. The awards don't stop there because the Academy also remembered Riggs in After. Remember Riggs' character growth from being a rebellious pre-teen to a broken-hearted kid. Carl Grimes was awarded for Best Peformance By A Young Actor In A Television Series.
From the official WalkingDeadScenes Instagram, a photo was taken of the winning thespians and their trophies. McBride and Riggs stand side-by-side, smiling at the camera. Don't they look great together?
I for one am so happy that these two got their awards. Aren't you?
The Walking Dead's Melissa McBride and Chandler Riggs took home their trophies from the Saturn Awards. Readers, do you think there's still a chance for McBride to be Emmy nominated?
