Ahead of its official premiere date, Fox will debut the pilot of its Batman prequel series, Gotham, at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Convention-goers will get a taste of the highly anticipated DC Comics TV series, starring Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue, before regular TV audiences will.
As reported here, we know the TV show will take a look at the Dark Knight's early life. We won't be seeing the cape and cowl in this version, but actually Bruce Wayne as a little boy. In the origin story, Bruce witnesses the murder of his parents, which inspires him to don the Bat-suit.
How will Gotham deviate from the comics then? McKenzie revealed rookie detective James Gordon is partnered up with rogue veteran Harvey Bullock. The good/bad cop team are assigned to solve the murder of the Wayne parents.
Because this is a prequel, audiences will meet Oswald Copplepot (Robin Lord Taylor) before he became the mob boss, The Penguin. The Batman villain starts out as a henchmen to mob boss, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith) and a snitch to Gordon. In this video, Taylor explains how Copplepot and Gordon rose through their ranks.
At Comic-Con, audiences will watch the pilot, followed by a Q&A session with the cast and showrunners. Right now, there is no confirmation on who will be showing up for the event. Wouldn't it be nice to ask showrunner, Bruno Heller, if the Joker will show up on the series?
Because the convention-goers will be the first ones to see the pilot, will these viewers re-watch the show again on its real airdate? The first reviews will be from this Comic-Con screening. Either the show will get high praise or boos from the crowd.
