Though today's 2014 World Cup round of 16 knockout match between USA and Belgium has us all on the edge of our seats, a video message from a special group of fans to the USMNT is sure to boost some morale before kickoff. Sent over the weekend, 232 young cancer patients from Camp Sunshine made a video that was sent to the team in which the kids chant the now-iconic "I Believe That We Will Win" chant.
The spirit of the message is clear, but it means so much more for the ill kids. Yes, we've adopted the chant for the 2014 World Cup games in Brazil, which the US has miraculously progressed through into the knockout stages, but to cancer patients winning is literally a matter of life and death.
Sometimes believing is all you can do. With the odds totally stacked against the USA in the World Cup this year, we put teams to shame in what some call luck, but Americans call belief.
Watch this moving video of the sick kids cheering on their national soccer team, and also chanting something that we're sure they repeat to themselves each day:
We're sure the team deeply appreciates this video message and is chanting it right back to the brave cancer patients.
Here is a brief description of the video from YouTube:
Camp Sunshine, a Camp for Kids with Cancer, chanted this everyday last week during meal times. These children have had a long fought battle with cancer... They cheer for the USMNT for their battle against Belgium. Cancer didn't stop them.... They won't stop you!!! #1N1T #USMNT #ibelievethatwewillwin
