Rumors about the WWE's plans for SummerSlam on Aug. 17, 2014 have been floating around for quite a while now, and the company's second-biggest pay-per-view is shaping up to have a stacked match card this year. New reports discuss the top four matches on the card, and it looks promising thus far.
SEScoops reported and The Wrestling Observer confirmed that WWE has planned the following four matches for the top of the SummerSlam card:
- John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
- Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
- Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella
- Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt
This list does not include the widely expected match between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, which would only add to the stellar card. And the Stephanie vs. Brie match, according to some reports, would be for Brie's job with WWE.
Speaking of Chris Jericho, the wrestler and musician revealed details of his return on Monday Night Raw this week on his Talk Is Jericho podcast. Cageside Seats transcribed his entire monologue here, but the gist of it is that Jericho is continually in talks with WWE about a return, but only comes back if the schedule and the creative plan are right.
Interestingly, he reveals talk of working with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30, but that obviously did not happen. But he jumped at the chance to work with Bray Wyatt and he and the WWE finalized the deal last Friday, three days before Raw. He flew into Boston and drove to Hartford, where he arrived at about 5:30 p.m. He hid in a production bus for four hours before he eventually made his return on screen.
