Sometimes when people say "when one door closes, another opens" we frown and think they're just trying to comfort us. Hip Hop star Mike Stud, is a testament to the truth of this saying. The former baseball prospect was rated highly at Duke University, and understandably he thought his future would be all about college and possibly the MLB, but after having career-ending Tommy John Surgery, that door closed, and the door to Hip Hop stardom opened. Today his album Closer ("closer" is a baseball term for the top-fun relief pitcher in a team's bullpen, the one who comes in to nail shut a win; Stud's 2013 debut album was titled Relief) was released and has been a huge hit worldwide. Even MLB star Mike Trout is a huge fan.
While recovering from his surgery, Stud used music to take his mind off things, and after completing university he moved to Georgetown, hoping to continue both baseball and music. He made the song "College Humor" as a track for his teammates in 2010, but something funny happened. He became a star. It's been viewed well over 1 million times and his work has continued to be nothing but hits.
Even though he traded in his MLB dreams for music, he has a fan in Trout, who today tweeted "Everyone go buy that new album by @Mike_Stud #Closer !!!" Ironically, the star brings his love for baseball in to his music, using metaphors and statements heavily linked to the sport.
The album's title teack "Closer", has been a huge hit, with many stating their love of the rap-and-R&B combination. Other singles such as "All Good", "Out Here" and "Thinking Of You" are must-have songs.
It seems after all of his pitching practice, Mike Stud hit a home run and pitched a perfect game, but it just so happened to be in music.
