It's a sad day for the modeling world. PEOPLE reports Eileen Ford, the co-founder of the famed Ford Models, has passed away at the age of 92. She had been hospitalized since last week after suffering a fall in her New York City apartment.
The entrepreneur founded Ford Models with her husband Jerry Ford back in 1946. Together, the duo invented the modeling "business" and delivered an immense amount of influence over the world of modeling throughout the years. They are often noted as pioneers of the modern day modeling industry.
Eileen graduated from Barnard College back in 1943 and met her future husband at a nearby Columbia University drugstore. Following his return from World War II, the two started up Ford Modeling Agency and racked in nearly $250,000 in one year. Ford, as history shows, has become one of the most successful modeling agencies in the United States.
The company has repped the likes of some of fashion's most popular supermodels, including Amber Rose, Christie Brinkley and Cheryl Tiegs. They've also been known to house celebrity clients such as Lindsay Lohan and Lana Del Rey.
Ford's daughter Katie released a statement to PEOPLE, saying, "Eileen loved Jerry and her family and her friends, as well as Le Cirque, football, ballet, bellini's, Benny Goodman, "21", books on history, the New York Post and The New York Times, Seinfeld, The Stork Club, her flower garden, The Ritz in Paris, champagne and caviar; great food and deli; Harry's Bar in Venice, Frank & Ella, Aquavit, Quogue, Fairfield, Oldwick, the townhouse on 78th Street, beautiful models, photographers, fashion, Fred Astaire, and life in general."
