BOOM! Studios and Twentieth Century Consumer Products have partnered together to launch the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes comic book series. Writer Michael Moreci (Hoax Hunters) will pen the six issue miniseries based on the new film from 20th Century Fox.
Moreci will bridge the 10-year gap between Rise of the Plant of the Apes and the recent Dawn sequel. As humanity falls, the rise of Caesar's ape civilization is just beginning. While the ape leader is trying to unify his people to one cause, Malcolm (played by Jason Clarke in the film) has to venture out into the forbidden zone of America. Somewhere out in the wasteland, Malcolm has to find a cure for his dying wife, Rita.
The first issue will come with a main cover by artist Christopher Mitten and an incentive drawn by Jay Shaw.
BOOM! Studios Editor-In-Chief Matt Gagnon is excited for this new comic series to come out, "Our Planet of the Apes comics stand out to me as some of our best work." Gagnon continues, "This series marks the first time we've ventured into producing print comics based on the new films, and we can't wait to explore this world. The new films are so good-we're honored to add to the mythology."
BOOM! will also debut Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Contagion at San Diego Comic-Con. From writer Caleb Monroe (Cloaks) and artist Tom Derenick (Hypernaturals), continues the story of Ellie (Keri Russell). The struggling mother has to race against the clock to save her ill daughter.
