It's been a year since the tragic passing of Cory Monteith and the actor's family as well as Hollywood are still dealing with this devastating loss.
It was last July 13, that the world learned of the news that the Glee actor had passed away after overdosing on a combination of heroin and alcohol. The news shocked fans and those closest to him, including Joe Monteith, his father.
In an interview with ET Canada his father said, "I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling."
Joe revealed that he had an estranged relationship with his son and because of that he was unfortunately unable to attend the funeral. "I didn't get to go to his view, which would have meant a lot."
"I did receive an email from his mother a couple of day ago [and] in the near future she's going to be sending me some of his stuff," the actor's dad continued.
Cory's parents divorced when he was 7, and because of this Cory didn't get to know his father until recently. They had just begun rebuilding their relationship a few years ago, however, where not in contact with each other when Cory entered a rehab facility in 2013.
"The only thing I knew, was through watching [the news]," Joe told the news outlet.
In closing Joe reflected on Cory's life sayings he was a "likeable, approachable" man. "if he was in the room, you'd be smiling," he said.
"He enjoyed life, that's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything," Joe explained. "He just seemed to enjoy life overall and then all of a sudden he's gone."
