Innocent lives were stolen on that unforgettable day (July 18) in Aurora, CO when the tragic mass shooting occurred at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises".  71 were reported to have been shot, 12 confirmed dead at the scene upon the arrival of the police and some in critical condition.  Victims young and old were targeted by the deranged PhD drop out James Eagan Holmes, 24, who had allegedly dressed up as Joker.  The suspect is now in police custody.

No words could describe the pain and sadness that this incident has caused for Americans and the world.

Hundreds of mourners of Aurora, CO gathered together to honor the victims of the shooting on late Friday evening (July 20).

Colorado state rep Rhonda Fields said at an evening vigil that took place near the shooting location,"Today, we came to pray.  Today we came to heal."

"This is a very sad situation. I don't know about you, but I'm shaken. We have 12 people that lost their lives just behind us ... I don't know what else to do but to pray," she continued.

Leaders from various faiths became one in heart to pray and remember the victims.  The Lord's Prayer was sung by a woman and candles were lit as the evening progressed.

Rev. Thomas Mayes said to the people gathered, "This is a time when we come together. What I would like to see is for us not to wait for another tragedy to come together and to pray."

A memorial Mass was also held at the local Queen of Peace Roman Catholic church where over 1000 residents.  The Archbishop Samuel Aquila expressed, "The heart of our Father is stronger than the bullets that killed 12 people."

The nation's President Barack Obama assured that the suspect responsible for the killings would be punished.
"The federal government stands ready to do everything necessary to bring whoever is responsible for this heinous crime to justice.  We will take every step possible to ensure the safety of all our people and we will stand by our neighbors in Colorado during this extraordinarily difficult time."
