On The Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert and Marvel Comics' Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada teamed-up to announce All-New Captain America. Writer Rick Remender (Uncanny Avengers) and artist Stuart Immonen (All-New X-Men) will be launching the new adventures of The Falcon after he picks up Cap's shield.

In the video, Colbert gives a quick recap of what's going on the Captain America comics. While trying to save a foreign nation from nuclear disaster, the original super-solider is suddenly ambushed by a super-villain. After his super-serum is drained from his body, leaving him withering away as a 60-year-old man.

Just like in the feature film, Captain America: The First Avenger, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) met and quickly become best friends. Though they fought in different generations of war, the two vets share a soldierly bond of comradery. Cap's best friend has to pick up the shield while he is inactive from duty.

In an interview with Marvel, Remember explains why the Falcon would pick up someone else's mantle, "Sam wants to lead by example. To help people see their own selfishness and to turn it around. To build better communities and to never forget the little guy." Remender continues, "Sam follows his heart and his belief in what the American dream means, and how it belongs to everyone."

This isn't the first time a substitute had to pick up the red, white, and blue shield. When Rogers died in the Civil War crossover event, Bucky Barnes, the Winter Solider, put on the costume. The sidekick usually rises in the ranks and becomes the main lead.
