Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard is fast approaching the end of his soccer career, and most believed he should retire from international football, so that he could prolong his Liverpool and Premier League career. It seemed like he'd refuse to do so, however, it appears the heroic leader has had a change of heart, with the star today announcing his retirement. Now he can fully focus on Liverpool's EPL title challenge, rather than the long haul that is required when playing for England. After a poor World Cup, has he made the right decision?
Some suggest that a player over 30 years of age cannot handle both domestic and international football. Why you ask? Because of fatigue. They may have a case. Gerrard seemed to go off the boil towards the end of the 2013/14 EPL season, and he slipped over in a vital game, which led to a goal conceded and Liverpool narrowly missing out on an EPL title. Some suggested that slip was tiredness, and now with his England duties out of the way, you wouldn't expect another error of that kind.
Gerrard has won a lot of trophies in his career, yet never got a hold of an EPL title, or a trophy with his country. England, however, do not look like winning anything in the near future, so it seems the star wants to better his chances with Liverpool before he ends his club career too.
Has their been a more decorated English star in recent times, and will retiring from international duties help his domestic career?
