Archie Comics killed its legendary comic book character, Archie Andrews, in the shocking issue of Life with Archie #36. Now we take a look at Riverdale one year later in Life with Archie #37.
In the pages of Afterlife with Archie, our red-haired hero died a truly tragic but ultimately noble death. There was no chance of escaping death as the bullet went through his chest.
In the storyline, Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character in the comic book universe, has been threatened many times since running for senator. During the fundraiser, Archie quickly notices the gun being raised and he immediately jumps in the line of fire. Our hero dies surrounded by his loved ones, who are all grief-stricken and drenched in tears.
The narrative time-jumps one year after the shocking shoot-out. How have the citizens of Riverdale dealt with Archie's death? As the one year anniversary approaches, what has the old gang, especially Veronica and Betty, been doing to cope with the painful memory? Will the one year anniversary reopen or close those wounds?
As reported here, Archie has a line-up of well-known artists, ranging from Mike Allred to Fiona Staples, contributing variant covers. This writer prefers the cover by renowned artist Alex Ross because of his realistic depictions. Comic book fans should definitely collect as many issues as they can.
