In their most-talked about issue, Archie Comics killed off its beloved comic book icon, Archie Andrews, in Life with Archie #36. As readers witness the aftermath of what happened in the previous issue, Life with Archie #37 closes its last chapter on a heartwarming and uplifting note.
In the previous story arc, Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character in the comic universe, is running for Senator. Never hesitating for a second, Archie jumps into the line of fire. Our red-haired hero takes the bullet so that everyone else can have a better future, even if it means without him.
In this new installment, a year has passed and though Riverdale has moved on from the heartbreaking incident, some wounds cannot be healed. Kevin wants to hear stories about his departed friend from the people who knew him best.
Writer Paul Kupperberg takes readers through memory lane from different viewpoints. We see our protagonist growing up through different stages of his life. It's the actions of what a person does that lasts a lifetime. Kupperberg never strays from his heartfelt message as the narrative closes on a stirring speech.

Verdict: BUY IT
Seeing Andrews drawn as a rambunctious little kid does pull at the heart strings. The artists - Pat and Tim Kennedy and Fernando Ruiz - have done a great job capturing the essence of innocent youth. I don't want to spoil the last page, but it definitely is a celebration of someone else's life that will never end.
As reported here, Archie has a list of fantastic variant covers from well-known artists, from Jill Thompson to Alex Ross. I highly recommend Ross' cover because of his realistic and painterly illustrations. As a comic book fan, you should definitely collect them all.
Get those tissues handy when you start reading Life with Archie #37, which is out in stores now. Readers, which cover are you going to pick up?
