Nick Jones has come a pretty long way since his days in the Jonas Brother boy band.
The family trio broke up in October of last year, and since then the group members have all done some pretty intense soul searching.
Nick's journey has probably been the most drastic, as he has shed his squeaky clean image and is getting ready for a reinvention.
He is gearing up to star in the DirecTV martial arts show Navy Street, which required him to get buff, and is also about to release a new song called "Chains," which is reported to be about his time feeling trapped in his family band. The music video for the song will feature Dylan Penn, and is rumored to be pretty steamy.
A source close to Jonas, explained to Page Six that the song is "a metaphor for what he has been feeling all these years."
"Nick has spent years experiencing a burden that's hard to explain," the insider said. "He's not blaming anyone for it; it's just what fame does to people, especially at a young age."
The star is far from showing a complete 180, but the site does explain that fame makes different people react in different ways.
"Different people respond in different ways - some do drugs and act out, but his response was to conform to what he thought people wanted him to be," they explain. "Remember, he was a 13 year-old kid when he became famous. For example: He thought that when he slept in a hotel room on tour, people would talk s - - t about him if he didn't make his own bed. So he made it."
It seems that this story has a happy ending, as the source claims that Jonas now feels free to live how he wants to live.
"He feels free now for the first time in his life," the insider says. "He's making music he believes in. He's done apologizing for everything and trying to be perfect. He's just going to be himself; if people like him, great, if not, he's done giving a s - - t."
