Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard is set to release a solo collection titled "Former Lives." Choosing to go by the name Benjamin Gibbard for the upcoming album, the solo album is slated for an October 16 release.
When questioned in an interview if the album was the result of any friction amongst the band, the talented lead singer responded with the following:
"It wasn't a goal and it certainly wasn't a reaction to any sort of dissatisfaction to recording with Death Cab or anything like that," Gibbard said, according to Stereogum.
"In the past whenever I put out any solo recordings it's just been of a function of the time in which I was in. I'm a songwriter and that's my job, and with every record that we've made there would always be a couple of tunes that just didn't seem to fit in with the band. If people wanted to be dismissive of the record, they could just say 'Oh these are leftovers,' but they're really not," he also added.
The highly anticipated solo will have 12 tracks, which were written over the course of 8 years and later recorded once Gibbard finally made the move to Los Angeles from his hometown of Seattle.
The musician will go on tour for a limited time after the release of the album. However, there is still no confirmation yet as to when his first single will hit the general public.
