According to a new investors address this week, EA Games revealed that Star Wars: Battlefront is not tied to the upcoming J.J. Abrams film from Disney, Star Wars: Episode VII, but a release close to the movies premiere date is definitely preferred. Therefore, this highly anticipated video game could have a late 2015, early 2016 release date!
"What we're building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made," EA's Patrick Soderlund explained this week. "And that's just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars."
The video game won't be too far removed from the new films though, considering both productions are expansions on one main structure.
Soderlund added: "Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn't say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn't say that we're directly tied to it."
So it looks like we'll be getting an official release date announcement soon from EA Games that will most likely land around the release of Episode VII, if everything works out. This means that, in the same amount of time, we'll all be getting super hyped up about a new movie AND video game from the Star Wars universe.
