During San Diego Comic-Con, the fanboys became really excited when the original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi surprised the attendees and took the stage at the Screen Gems panel, as the discussion steered toward the Last of Us film adaptation and the cult classic, Evil Dead.
In the PlayStation survival horror videogame, players are thrown into a zombie apocalypse where most of the United States is completely gone. As the infected continue to rise in numbers, a runaway orphan named Ellie seems to be humanity's only hope. Joe must escort Ellie through the the wastelands and keep her alive while cannibalistic monsters are chasing after them.
There has been speculation about a movie being made, and the Darkman filmmaker confirmed to audiences that he will be producing the feature film version. Gamers shouldn't be worried though because Neil Druckman, creator of the Naughty God game, is involved writing the screenplay. With these two creative minds at the helm, this horror flick is bound to be a surefire hit.
As transcribed by Deadline, Raimi told fans, "It's going to be a great character journey, a great love story, and great horror fiction."
Then The Gift director spoke about a project dear to his heart, the cult classic that turned him into a household name Who could forget The Evil Dead, and the four college kids trapped in an isolated cabin, surrounded by demons?
The Spidey director talks about returning to the Book of the Dead and is quoted as saying, "I always loved working on that series with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert. My brother and I are writing the Evil Dead TV show."
If Raimi is working on the video game adaptation, that means Campbell, the man known as Ash to horror fans, isn't too far behind.
