During San Diego Comic-Con, audiences got a sneak peek at the final chapter of director Peter Jackson's epic masterpiece, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Not only do we get a flying fire-breathing dragon destroying a village, but also a growing army of Orcs ready for battle.

Old and new faces pop up throughout the footage. Orlando Bloom returns as the archer Legolas, who I should also mention isn't even in the J.R.R. Tolkien books. Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) shows up kicking butt and slashing his sword. Gandalf (Ian McKellan) looks like he's in such bad shape he needs medical care from Galadriel (Cate Blanchett).

Because this is a prequel, we already know who's going to make it to the second round of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We know Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is going to make it out alive. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, we know our protagonist has written down everything in this massive book, which Frodo (Elijah Wood) will eventually read.

But the battle with the CGI orcs will take a toll on our hero. If you listen closely to the video, Freeman says in a dark tone, "One day I'll remember...remember everything. The good, the bad...those who survived...and those who did not."

Can we expect a happy ending with the conclusion of this medieval/adventure series? [Spoilers] The next trilogy deals with the all-powerful One Ring and the mission to destroy the ultimate weapon. Bilbo grows up to be become an old man but bearing the ring has drained his soul completely. [End Spoilers]

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is set to hit theaters on December 17. Readers, are you excited to see the final piece of Peter Jackson's prequel trilogy?
