Production on Season 8 of The Big Bang Theory has been delayed as the five lead actors negotiate new contracts, according to multiple reports.
"Due to ongoing contract negotiations, production on The Big Bang Theory - which was originally scheduled to begin [Wednesday, July 30] - has been postponed," Warner Bros. said in a statement. Production has been delayed for one day and the studio will evaluate the situation on a day-by-day basis.
Fortunately, CBS boss Nina Tassler said at the 2014 TCA Summer Press tour earlier this month that she was not worried about the situation. "I just love being able to answer these questions year after year, primarily because we have successful shows," she said.
The boss also expressed optimism that deals would get done. "We're feeling very confident that everything will work out," Tassler said. "These deals manage to get done miraculously somehow year after year."
Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki (all of whom make more than $300,000 per episode) are reportedly in talks together and should return for the new season, according to E! Online. Deadline reports the trio could receive up to $1 million per episode in their new deals. Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik, who joined the show later in its run, got new deals last year.
The hit sitcom also stars Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar (who make $125,000 and $75,000 per episode, respectively) and is scheduled to return for Season 8 on Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. The show aired on Thursdays last season.
