According to the rapper Ice-T in an interview with Channel 4 London released on Tuesday, "The United States is based on guns." The "Original Gangster" founder does not believe any tighter gun laws will result as a consequence of the deadly Aurora, CO shootings which took place during a midnight premiere of the film "Batman The Dark Night Rises" last weekend.
In the interview with Channel 4 host Krishnan Guru-Murthy, featured in the video below, Ice-T defends the right to bear arms and argues against stricter gun control. He states, "The right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police. If somebody wants to kill people, they don't need a gun to do it."
When Guru-Murthy goes on to suggest that guns may help facilitate murderous acts, Ice-T denied the connection.
Such remarks made by the pioneer rap star may hit the wrong nerve with some, given the recent massacre in Colorado which left 12 dead and injured dozens more. Suspect James Holmes,24, walked into the Aurora movie theater armed with a massive amount of warfare gear, much of which he purchased without any trouble online.
