Dead Island 2 has a release date for 2015 and the hype for this new video game has re-launched the prospects of a movie adaptation. Thanks to a great slow motion, backwards commercial for the first video game release back in 2011, a movie production has been in the works. Now it looks like it's finally getting going thanks to financing from Occupant Entertainment and Deep Silver.
Based around an island overrun by zombies, this first-person perspective survival game will take advantage over the seemingly endless craze of movies about the undead.
"Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse," a press release from Occupant Entertainment partners Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino stated. "We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience."
Koch Media, the parent company of Deep Silver, also shared excitement in another statement: "The Dead Island universe offers a rich and unique setting that can expand beyond the pure gaming experience. We are very much looking forward to seeing Dead Island open up to new audiences and showing off the fun everybody at Deep Silver has with this brand."
Lionsgate bought the rights to this property years ago, but the stalled project eventually led to Occupant's purchase this year.
