Michael Johns Tribute: Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kristy Lee Cook, Gavin Rossdale & More Honor 'American Idol' Contestant

American Idol's contestant Michael Johns has passed away at the young and tender age of 35. In honor of the late Australian singer, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Gavin Rossdale, and more paid tribute to the fellow musician on Twitter and Instagram.

Viewers may remember the Idol alum during his time on the Fox music competition in 2003. In the reality series, the contestant made it close to the last rounds and landed on eighth place. Entertainment Weekly reports the cause of death was due to a fatal blood clot in his ankle.

John's living family members released a statement ti the press, "Our family is devastated by the passing of our beloved Michael, a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from all corners of the globe." The message continues, "Please keep Michael in your thoughts and respect our need to grieve privately in this difficult time."

Ex Idol judge, Simon Cowell, who was of fan of the late singer's talents, writes, "I just heard the very sad news that Michael Johns has passed away. A truly great guy. Rest in peace Michael."

Record producer Randy Jackson also shared the same sentiment, "So Sad. Too soon. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. RIP Michael Johns"

Kristy Lee Cook, a fellow 2008 contestant, shared a photo of the two together on Instagram.

Cook reminisces, "RIP to Michael Johns, my friend from American idol. He was such a fun person to be around and was always making us laugh. My prayers are with his family and rest his soul with God! #YouwillbeMissed"

The frontman of the rock group Bush states, "What a terrible shock - RIP #MichaelJohns. Such a great guy."

Contestant alum Melinda Doolittle also shared a photo on Instagram and wrote "I can't express how sad I am right now. Michael Johns, rest in sweet peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed."
