Universal and Imagine Entertainment have bought the rights to Anne Rice's bestselling collection of The Vampire Chronicles. Producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (The Star Trek remakes) will oversee the project as the horror franchise reboots Interview With The Vampire.
Though audiences are frightened by the undead, they have such a fascinated with the terrifying creatures. Case in point, check out our recent recaps of The Strain and True Blood. Nobody wants to be one of the living dead but everyone wants some bloodsucker to bite them.
The book-to-film adaptation will possibly begin with Interview with The Vampire. In the first 1960s installment, Louis is tormented over the death of the vampire-child Claudia. To a reporter, Louis recounts his heartbreaking journey as a lost soul discovered by the charismatic but deadly Lestat.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the acquisition surrounds the entire body of already existing and future unproduced novels. This also includes Christopher Rice's adapted screenplay for Tale of the Body Thief.
Rice even told Deadline how much she loves the popular HBO vampire drama, "I think it's wonderful fun. Now that I don't write the Vampire Chronicles, I feel free to enjoy it. I really enjoy the HBO series, True Blood. When I was writing my own, I wouldn't have wanted to be influenced."
In the previous adaptation, we saw an unknown Brad Pitt as Louis, child actress Kirsten Dunst playing Claudia, and a surprising turn by Tom Cruise as Lestat.
