Three Things We Want from Arrow Season 3

The CW's Arrow is a show that could have fallen flat in the early going. Green Arrow is a known property, but not on the level of a Clark Kent in Smallville. But thanks to a darker, grittier approach and a charming performance from lead Stephen Amell, the show has found its groove and delivered some captivating storytelling in its first two seasons.

The show is back for Season 3 this fall, and the table is set for another quality run of episodes for Oliver Queen and his crew. So here are three things we want to see in Season 3 of Arrow. [WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST TWO SEASONS AHEAD]

1) More relationship development for Oliver.

Amell is a handsome man who is in what can only be described as ridiculous physical condition, as the show likes to remind us at least once an episode through a shirtless workout scene in which he does crunches while suspended from the ceiling like a bat. So it's hardly surprising that Oliver climbs into bed with multiple women in this series. In fact, it's become something of a running joke that if a pretty girl shows up and she's not related to Ollie, then the countdown begins until they sleep together.

But Amell has said that Oliver has one woman on his mind this season, and that woman is Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). The two go on a date in the Season 3 premiere, but we're going to go out on a limb and say it won't go so smoothly for the two.

Either way, we just want to see Oliver get some more meaningful love in his life. He has had relationships in the past, but they usually ended horribly. Maybe he's not supposed to have a steady girlfriend, but let's at least give it a shot.

2) More badass fight scenes.

The stunt and fight coordinators on this show deserve any awards they receive and probably a few more. The fight sequences on Arrow are some of the best on television, which is all the more impressive considering they usually have multiple fights per episode. They topped themselves with the Season 2 finale, in which Oliver and Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) fought in the present day in Starling City. This fight was cool enough on its own, but it seamlessly and repeatedly transitioned to a flashback to the two of them fighting on a sinking ship five years earlier.

There's little doubt we'll get more of this in Season 3, especially as the show adds more DC Comics characters, such as Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer aka The Atom. In fact, while we're on the subject, let's get more DC Comics characters on the show!

3) Crossovers with The Flash.

When Arrow brought in Grant Gustin in Season 2 to play Barry Allen for a few episodes, fans went crazy at the thought of the Flash and the Green Arrow teaming up on the small screen. That feeling only intensified when Barry got struck with a mysterious jolt of red energy and fell into a coma. Fortunately, we don't have to just imagine this team-up, as The Flash gets his own show this fall.

Arrow now has a prime opportunity to hold some major crossover events with its sister show. Oliver is entering the third year of his adventures as the Arrow, while Barry is just starting out as the Flash. If the two shows pull this off correctly, the crossovers could create some incredibly memorable moments and help elevate both shows. This is not to say Ollie and Barry should be hanging out on screen together every week, because then it wouldn't feel special and neither show would be able to stand on its own. When they do link up, it should be to take on an enemy that requires more than one hero.

These crossovers need not be restricted to Oliver and Barry. Felicity will likely make her way to Central City a few times, and some supporting players from The Flash will likely come to Starling City. We already know Robert Knepper will return as William Tockman aka The Clock King to cause trouble on The Flash along with another villain. We also know Episode 8 of both Arrow and The Flash this season will be a two-hour crossover event.

These shows could easily adopt the model Joss Whedon used with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and perhaps even improve on it. Those two shows stood on their own two feet, but they blended when necessary. Arrow and The Flash will likely do the same.
