With the Breaking Bad marathon making its way on AMC, this is the perfect opportunity to pick out our favorite scenes from the Emmy-winning crime drama. Here are the top 5 best moments from Dean Norris as tough-guy DEA agent Hank Schrader.
Inspired by his time on The X-Files, Vince Gillian created Hank Schrader with FBI agent John Doggett in mind. Both main characters knew how to have fun on the job and were admired by their peers. In the Breaking Bad Binge marathon, notice how Hank moved from comic relief to dramatic protagonist as the seasons progressed.
5) Hank vs Tuco
In 'Grilled,' the DEA agent followed the trail of clues right to the footstep of fleeing gangster Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz). Though their first encounter is brief, the confrontation leave behind a hail of never-ending bullets. With precise timing, Hank shoots Tuco right in the head, dropping him dead.
Check out this featurette of how the scene was shot:
4) "Tread Lightly"
It took awhile for Hank to realize Walter White (Bryan Cranston) to deduce was really Heisenberg. But in 'Buried' that realization leads to a gripping moment as the two had their own face-off. After Walter advises him to 'tread lightly,' Hank's first reaction is beat the crap out of him.
3) Hank vs Gus Fring
It's not all about gunfights and punches with Schrader, sometimes it's really about intuitiveness. Suspicious about Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), Hank goes directly to the source as he takes Walt Jr. (RJ Mitte) to Pollos Hermanos. In 'Problem Dog,' Hank pretended to be eating at the fast food joint, so that he could get the criminal mastermind's fingerprints.
2) Hank & Gomez vs The Neo Nazis
Playing by the book, Hank and his loyal partner, Steve Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada) have their criminal captured in 'Ozymandias.' But the two agents don't realize danger is heading straight towards them, as Todd (Jesse Plemons) and the rest of Jack's (Michael Bowen) gang arrive. Their intense shootout leads to a finale no one will ever expect.
1) Hank vs The Cousins
Set up by Gus (Esposito), Hank has to take down the bloodthirsty killers by himself. Stripped of his badge and gun, Hank has to improvise as the axe comes screeching down. You just want to cheer as Hank singlehandedly takes down the silent but deadly twin hit-men.
