Vampires are running loose in the big city and the disease detectives are close behind them in The Strain. But in the 'Runaways,' are our heroes running towards the bloodsucker nest? Or are they running away from their own problems?
In the opening teaser, we see the rock star sickly pale, having fully transformed from the vampire infection. His manager attempts to send in a doctor to check up on her wealthy client. All of sudden, the manager witnesses the rock star dragging the screaming medical physician into the bathroom.
Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) explains to Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) that vampires have been around since World War II. During his youth, he was sent to one of the concentration camps. This is where Abraham first meets Thomas Echorist (Richard Sammel), who was a Nazi soldier at the time.
During the night, Abraham would see The Master sneaking into his camp site, killing his friends one by one. When Abraham tries to warn the others, he is told to stop seeing monsters, because they are already there. Now, Abraham has drafted Eph to join his cause to stop the Master's raging thirst.
They have to go visit the next person on their passenger list. During their car ride together, Abraham learns his fellow comrade is a romantic at heart and impractical. Though Eph wants to continue their discussion, his mind is completely distracted by Nora's unknown whereabouts.
The vampire conspiracy has spread, causing the cellphones to lose their signals. (Mia Maestro) is actually with her mother at an old folks home. Though her maternal parent is suffering from Alzheimer's, Nora constantly reminds her she has passed the medical tests and has become a doctor.
When Abraham and Eph arrive at the house of the infected survivor, they find his wife hanging from a rope. After they read her suicide note, the pair hear strange noises coming from the toolshed. Eph takes out his camera and starts recording, while Abraham unleashes his sword from his cane once more.
Inside the toolshed, Eph starts shooting and Abraham moves in for the kill. While another infected vampire loses its head, the rock star meets the cleaner who is supposed to get rid of the dead doctor's body. The rock star vomits out his stinger, which sucks out the blood from the cleaner's neck.
Following the trail of the rats, Vasiliy (Kevin Durand) heads straight down into the sewers. In the dark tunnels, the exterminator barely makes it out alive as the bloodsuckers chase after him. Though Nora wants her mother to stay where it's safe, but the two have to leave when a vampire shows up, attacking the old folks home.
As Eph tries to convince his CDC boss that a vampire plague is spreading, Jim Kent (Sean Astin) shows up to warn him. The police have footage of Eph dragging the dead pilot. Eph is now a wanted man, a fugitive from the law.
No matter how many vampires Abraham and Eph keep killing, there always seems to be another one popping up. Readers, what did you think of 'Runaways?'
