The couple's daughter, Vale weighed 8.5 lbs. and measured 19.5 inches, according to E! Guthrie posted photos of her joyous new edition via Facebook, to show her fans the new family of three. "The baby is more cheek than head," Guthrie joked about her new daughter.
Savannah expressed the joy of knowing that she would be a mother at her age on the Today baby blog earlier this year writing, "I'm 42 years old, and I honestly didn't know if I'd ever get this chance." "I've never been more thankful, or felt more blessed from above. I know how lucky I am," she continued. "For a long time, I think I was afraid to even let myself think about how much I hoped to one day have a baby."
Looks like a baby, and love was in the future for Guthrie, because on March 14, Savannah and her then-fiancé tied the knot in the NBC co-anchor's hometown of Tucson, Ariz. "It was beautiful. Just everything I could have dreamed," Savannah said. "We just wanted to have this private moment. It was a small wedding. We just wanted that moment with our close friends and family to basically drop a big bomb on them."
That bomb was the news that Savannah four months at that time. Today co-host Matt Lauer was in attendance, and revealed that the baby news was his "favorite moment" from the wedding weekend. He described the moment, and said everyone was about to give the newlyweds a toast when "This is an NBC News special report" was heard over a loudspeaker. The wonderful "breaking news" got the wedding attendants attention, as Savannah told her guests she felt "like the least that we could do is break some news," laughing, "I, or we, are four months pregnant!" Savannah also added via Twitter:
Every new parent must want to shout their happy news to the world. So lucky we got to do it on @TODAYshow! We are bursting with joy. #Vale — Savannah Guthrie (@SavannahGuthrie) August 14, 2014
